Founder, Lead Therapist & Clinical Supervisor
Cultivation Liberation Counseling and Psychotherapy Inc.

Joy D. Jaco is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT), founder of Cultivation Liberation Counseling and Psychotherapy Inc., and the Clinical Supervisor for associate therapists within the organization. Joy brings a trauma-informed, relational, and liberation-focused approach to therapy, grounded in the belief that healing is both a personal and collective process.

Joy earned their Master’s degree in Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies and holds advanced training in Brainspotting and expressive therapeutic approaches. Whether working directly with clients or supporting developing clinicians, Joy is committed to cultivating meaningful change, deep self-understanding, and sustainable healing.

Joy has been inspired by personal and professional experiences to provide care to and work collaboratively with individuals, teens, children, couples, and families navigating trauma and PTSD, neurodivergence, addiction, attachment wounds, identity exploration, and major life transitions. Their clinical style is collaborative, non-pathologizing, and rooted in radical acceptance, curiosity, and compassion—often infused with humor and creativity to support authentic connection and growth.

As a clinician, Joy integrates a range of modalities including Brainspotting, somatic therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), expressive arts, narrative practices, Solution focused, insight oriented, psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and strength based approaches. They are deeply committed to providing affirming care for LGBTQIA+ communities, including trans and gender-expansive clients, as well as those in designer relationships or non-traditional.

As a human being outside of work, Joy loves being a parent of two kiddos, hiking with their dogs, riding motorcycles, writing poetry, playing at rivers and dancing! They are endlessly curious, creative and playful in all their relationships!

In their role as Clinical Supervisor, Joy mentors and supports associate therapists at Cultivation Liberation, fostering ethical, reflective, and socially conscious clinical practice. Their supervision style emphasizes relational depth, nervous system awareness, cultural humility, and critical examination of power, privilege, and systemic oppression within therapeutic work. Joy is passionate about cultivating therapists who practice with integrity, curiosity, and accountability while honoring their own humanity alongside their clients’.

Cultivation Liberation Counseling and Psychotherapy Inc. was founded on the principle that healing does not occur in isolation. The practice centers liberation-oriented therapy that acknowledges how systems of oppression—including racism, sexism, ableism, fatphobia, homophobia, and transphobia—impact mental health. Joy’s work, both clinically and as a supervisor, seeks to create spaces where resilience, autonomy, and authenticity are actively nurtured.
