Dory Herman
A core belief that guides my practice is that the more we lean into getting to know ourselves, the more liberated we become to act in ways that are consistent with our personalities, needs, and values. This belief informs me personally and professionally, as I’ve grappled with my own anxiety, depression, and the ache of purposelessness.
I’ve supported others on their mental health journeys in a variety of contexts, including a restorative justice program, a community clinic, a mobile mental health crisis team, and private practice. As a mobile crisis clinician, I went where I was needed—often to lend support in profoundly challenging mental health and life circumstances. Working in crisis counseling trained me to move decisively when aid is needed. Longer-term therapy has cultivated the complementary ability of a methodical and patient presence.
In our work together, you may encounter thoughts, feelings, memories, and insights that are challenging, relieving, and even exhilarating. My hope is that these experiences become a foundation for emotional and psychological growth. As you move through them, I’ll be there to tend to them alongside you. My therapeutic presence is gentle and warm, clear and direct. On a collaborative foundation of empathy, trust, and honesty, we can help you find poise, feel better, and move forward.
